Planning your visits to Alaska's ports of call is very exciting, but you may be unsure where to begin. Below we have compiled a list of commonly-asked questions to help get you started.

Why book with Alaska Private Touring?

While Alaska may be just one of many destinations offered by our competitors, Alaska is where we live, what we know, and what we do best. So you can be confident that we know what we're talking about. We understand that this may be your first time visiting Alaska and will work with you to ensure you can enjoy the experience you imagined when you booked your cruise. All of the tours we offer have been carefully selected to meet our highest standards of value, quality, and experience.

Do you actually operate your tours?

No, but the cruise lines themselves do not operate many of the tours sold on board either. We work very closely with our long-time colleagues and friends who operate the shore excursions offered in the various port locations. Each cruise port is unique and we have hand selected the excursions that we know offer the best quality of experience. We also offer flexibility to help you maximize your experience and minimize your cost.

How can Alaska Private Touring ensure that I will not miss my ship's departure?

Though the cruise lines would like for you to believe that this is a risk, in truth this simply does not happen. All of our tour operators are familiar with the schedules for the various cruise lines and will ensure that you get back to your ship in plenty of time for departure. In the extremely unlikely event that you do not return to your ship in time for departure as a direct result of some unforeseen delay that occurs on one of your tours, we guarantee that we will not only make arrangements for you to meet the ship in the next port, but will also pay the full cost of such expenses including meals, hotel accommodations, and transportation.

What happens if a tour is cancelled due to weather?

Should weather conditions cause a tour operator to cancel your entire tour, a full refund will be provided. In the event that only a portion of your tour cannot take place as planned due to weather, you will be provided the option to cancel entirely and receive a full refund, or to participate in as much of the tour as possible and receive a partial refund for the missed service.

What happens if my cruise ship is late or does not visit a scheduled port at all?

If your confirmed tour cannot take place due to a delay in arriving into the port or because the ship misses the port of call entirely, you will receive a full refund for your tour.

How do I reserve my tour?

Once you are ready to proceed with one or more of the custom excursion programs we have offered, we will forward additional information so that you can log into your account and enter your personal information and payment details.

When do I have to pay for my tour?

A deposit of 50% of the total cost of your reserved services is due upon confirmation of service. Final payment is due 30 days prior to your schedule tour. Please see our Terms and Conditions for additional reservation and payment information.

What should I do when I arrive into the port for my tour?

Upon receipt of final payment you will receive a tour voucher by e-mail for each confirmed excursion that will include clear instructions on when and where you need to be for the start of your tour. The voucher will also include local contact information should you need to reach the local tour operator for any reason.

What do the shore excursions include?

Details regarding specific inclusions, such as transportation, meals, refreshments, and entrance fees will be indicated in the various tour descriptions.

Should I tip the Driver/Guide?

Gratuities or 'tips' for the various individuals that provide your tour are certainly appreciated, but never expected. Any gratuities offered to your hosts should be based solely on your tour experience and not out of a sense of obligation. We suggest USD 3-5 per person, depending on the level of customer service you feel you received.

When should I reserve my shore excursion?

As soon as possible! Please keep in mind that your ship is likely not the only ship in port and for this reason many excursions will sell out early. To ensure you have access to your first excursion choice in each port we recommend making your arrangements as far in advance as possible. Reservations booked within 14 days of the departure of your cruise ship will be subject to a $25 last-minute fee. Please see our Terms and Conditions for additional information concerning this last-minute fee.
